Experience
Felicity Collins Eventing, Upper Dicker, East Sussex
Full-Time Groom
August 2020 - January 2021
My job as home groom recently evolved into a full-time home and away Groom role but unfortunately due to the impact of Covid-19 on the Equine industry they do not currently need a full-time employee and I need a more secure income than the hours they can offer me. Although I do love this job, I have been increasingly feeling that I would like to have a non-equine job to broaden my experience and skill set and I would really like to work as part of a team.

Home Groom/Part-Time Groom
August 2018 - August 2020
As home groom for Felicity Collins, I carried out all general yard duties, assisting when necessary with the Farrier, Vet, Physio and Dentist. I had sole responsibility for her horses, dogs and yard whilst she was away competing, dealing with any situations that arose. My role also involved liaising with the livery customers, dealing with deliveries and visitors. This required me to use my initiative and problem solve on a day to day basis. I also prepared the yard for owners and sponsors visits. I did freelance work for the liveries alongside this job. I really enjoyed my job and the responsibilities and opportunities it gave me.

Yard and Riding School Assistant
July 2014 - May 2018
At Glebe Field I carried out all general yard duties and horse care, assisted instructors with lessons, accompanied hacks, exercised and provided holiday cover for liveries and supervised younger helpers. During my time at Glebe Field, I learned a lot about working with customers as I sometimes had responsibility for the yard and was frequently left to lock up. On Saturdays, I was responsible for making sure the timetable ran smoothly whilst observing BHS regulations. I took any opportunities of increasing my knowledge from the farriers, dentists and vets, through observing and asking questions. I also helped teach and supervise stable management to 4 - 14 year olds. I left this job because I wanted to gain more experience and my interest had moved toward eventing so that was the new path I wanted to pursue.

Yard Helper
February 2011- February 2012
I volunteered at this yard as a 10/11 year old under the supervision of the Yard Manager. We learned all the general stable management skills and to work together as a team. This was a very valuable experience as we were encouraged to support each other and work toward a common goal.
